The Two Step Rule

In the video below, Dave Hall talks to the Fort Collins Colorado high school basketball officials, IAABO Board 4 Area 12 study group.  The focus on this segment of his talk was about how to maintain an open look when the ball handler moves from the official’s right to the officials left or vice versa.

The key point is to first take two steps in the opposite direction that the ball handler is going.  So if the ball handler goes right, take two steps left or if the ball handler goes from the official’s right to his/her left, take two steps to the right.  By employing this technique, the official can maintain an open look and maintain contact.  Watch the video.
